The right time to take a chance with your career
Only some people know what they want to do when they get into a career early. And when we start feeling that we might be good at something else, it feels too late to start over. The fear of starting fresh is not an alien feeling to anyone. The struggles to come to terms with how to change your career track or get companies to consider you without showcasing experience are honest and challenging.
Should we take chances? Should we try something new? Or should we accept our fate and keep living the life unknown of the exciting new things one could have done? I am a software engineer working in an IT company for the last six years. Six years is a reasonable time to progress further in life and get into serious leadership roles. And I was a good developer. But still, something felt missing. It was the same 9–5 job, and I never felt any inspiration to do something new, something exciting in my career. If ever the thought came to make a career change, many questions sprang to my mind. What will happen to my six-year career experience? Am I ready to start afresh? Am I prepared to face the challenges of the unknown? Will I be happy getting paid less as a fresher again? Can I be successful in my new career and not regret the change?
